Already excellent library is now now GPL v 3 which is good as well as bad , generally dual license is used by many companies like mysql where you can get a commercial license by paying $$, when this was announced lot of php dev threatened to stop using mysql and go for technically better but not so famous databases like Postgresql , firebird etc , so mysql included to special clause for php dev so that dev can use it in commercial application . This seems to be nice strategy earn money first wait your framework to be widely adopted and then introduce dual license and you hit major jackpot !!

I am listing few great ajax framework in BSD and LGPL

1) Dojo Framework

2) Tibco GI

Apply is most closed company on earth , they believe dominance thru monopoly and they seem to be more closed even M$ .

All their product are closed , user have no control or choice . Steve Job philosophy my way or highway

Look at thier products

iPod : User cannot change battery ,what if my iPod battery dies ?
Apple solution : Get a new iPod !! if you are warranty send it us we will change it

iTunes : Only thing works with is itunes client installed , How I am supposed to buy stuff if I use linux desktop

iPhone : Locked to particular network (AT&T) , users have to buy 3rd party software to unlock it

Mac : Minimal games , softwares you can work without boot camp

MacOsX : Only comes with mac hardware

Apple is company with specializes creating hype and creating eye candy stuff , their business model is based creating vendor lock in and monopoly

No wonder there is 2 billion $ class action law suite coming up against them

Technically Medicores company with good designer with rock star marketing guy Steve jobs , we refuse to take this shit from your overpriced products and monopolistic tactics .We want more freedom and value if ever want to increase your market share more that 1%

Until then I guess solution for me is to use KickBista Linux (based on kubuntu) and dual boot to windows when I want play games

I SAY NO APPLE AND WILL NEVER BUY APPLE PRODUCT TILL THEY SHUN MONOPOLISTIC TACTICS , what about you ?

A Original idea!!

Hi this is Gaurav , Chief Architect of Alabot , I want to add few words what Akshat mentioned above

1) Saying that alabot copy of ALICE , is just same as ALICE is copy of ELIZA but without looking their engine (parsers , algorithm etc) anybody can say so but look deeper you wont say . ALICE is academic like other similar its ultimate aim is to pass turner test , its answers are human like but may not be relevant also it only answers what its already in database

look at samples below

Human: how will be weather today ?
ALICE: Ah. A lot of practise.
Human: whats the stock prize of microsoft ?
ALICE: Is there only one?
Human: where is mount fuji ?
ALICE: Where it is hard to find. There might be more than one.Â

2) Alabot engine is totally different from Alice ,we don’t use AIML! . We realized human conversation are dynamic and you can’t have generic statements to give relevant replies , Also you need to take decisions (does customer qualifies for discount ) . How we can do it ?Its no easy task ! Ala algorithm custom solution which consist of rule engine , NLP engine and parser , helper API hooks etc and we are frequently update it .

3) Ala was designed to work as Rapid Application development platform , one can put all business rules and configure NLP and ponetic engine and you can application running in matter matter days or few weeks in all connected mediums IM (yahoo ,gtalk, msn,ICQ,AOL,IRC,Gadu Gadu, Skype) Web (thru web client ), Mobile /Smart phone (GPRS/SMS)

I appreciate responsible comments / suggestion / feedback , i guess better to ignore irresponsible ones in order save everybody time !!

There are lot web frameworks to develop web applications , they also tend add additional layer of complexities at each layer to build RIA you need to make some or lot of extra effort…its a kind of artificial attachment or plugins you need to attach ………Also this coding divides the group in two parts those who are programmers who care least about UI and usability and other opposite of spectrum is the UI team who detest any kind of deviation from original design and their darling …it often takes weeks for these two groups to reach an mutually agreeable outcome …usually which doesn’t distorts their original design and at same time allows programmer to minimum amount of programming

There is no way you can make an enterprise ready app in just one week time forget about 100% ajax app or an RIA app .

Today we are at Internet economy , few months to build an application can mean 24X30X (time in moths to build application ) hours of lost business !! or if your a startup it might mean more to you perhaps critical , if competitor your is able to build application first and he is most likely get Lion share users , you are out of business before releasing your product !!

we set out with the aim of finding a solution to seemingly complicated solution . the result is Zintak framework (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zintak/) though no code has been released as of yet but we intend to do so after one year or so internal testing and development .Read more about it from here

More details of our offer

1) Just give us plain HTML and Css files we will convert it to ajax in one week, No complicated stuff to slow things like ROR , JSP,PHP etc …just plain HTML + Ajax

2)Single Click Server app , Copy paste and double click ….No need to setup database , web server, application server , webservices ……..you get an solution of single executable file with embedded Application server, Webserver ,database server At NO extra cost !!

3) Do you love stability of Linux /Unix (yeah we love it too) but want you application to Run on M$ Windoz too …No Problem all our application are mutliplatform

Read more about it Ajax offer Details (we will launching a separate web site for Web 2 labs …its wip )

There was a time i used to hate sun … it looked like an old Dinosaur about to go down after making a last kill …. why ? Java was impractical theoretical bull shit and with simple bugs taking years to get resolved … with simple thing taking 5-10 x of development time what it wud take in python , perl or php and even c ……and do remember those blood sucking ugly applets which use just paralyze system at time of loading ….and ULTRA who on earth will buy a system which cost twice as x386 box and with half of the performance …Solaris wud only run on SPARC and OH MY GOD that Ugly , crappy CDE enviorment ….netbeans was also pathetic bug ridden and Hey Did I forget about that mammoth , Utterly complicated and 100% wasted of time with 3x development time…yeah you guessed it right Ejb 2 . I rather stick to my fast portable linux who wud run happily on my celeron box since my student days ….and even freebsd ..If would I had to give a message to Sun Management of that time would “Stop Acting like University prof and take down that impractical bullshit down your A$#@….Simply things rather than complicate “…..Today after Linux , Eclipse and Apache foundation , AMD, Intel , PHP ,Ruby,Spring framework has changed a lot …its management is more dynamic and open and its going right way …..i hope with opening up java bugs will no loger take years to get resolve but months and practical innovation will come ….Netbeans is already great with really features like Web Pack , Matisse . One thing I about Netbeans (after years of eclipse user ) that it helps you get started really quickly and helps meet deadline at internet time and all tools built it in as packs same time …Java releases also faster and lot of new ideas coming up …EJB 3 is simpler (taking inspiration from spring and hibernate ) and fun to develop

My suggestion to Jonathan would be

1) Open customer feedback site similar to Dell’s Idea Strom and listen to your customers carefully and act !!(I know you already doing it but this will help accelerate stuff )

2) Release solaris in Gpl quickly and merge best features of Solaris and Linux (also look at freebsd)…make best hybrid system in world …also launch desktop of the hybrid system

3)Strip Down Java ….in the Pete sake pl do it !! I dont want ship 25 meg extra bloat ware with my products to my customer …make java system entirely modular and feature in netbeans that automatically build distributable jre based on lib used by Java application …and stripped down web version of java which core system not more than 2x size of flash …also add feature to browser to auto download jre packages (which are over and above core package) if needed by application

3) In the name gaint panda loose that default look and feel of swing (metal look ) it reminds of old ugly applets …. get a good UI expert (maybe ex apple

guy ) make a new look and feel for swing

4) Pl do something about extremely slow start application of java application …it causes perception that java is still slow …pre caching of core java libs in memory help

5) PL DONOT build a parallel alternative to Linux nobody have time leave a system already works so well… build a hybrid system and lead the community that would also drive the sales …do same with spring and other projects …..extend help hand to these folks ….do what IBM did and still doing and go beyond by developing hybrid system which is better than both

6) Start a managed hosting business with virulized enviorments and easy to use grids which should be cheap.. …..more companies dont want to build thier datacenters as its pure waste of time …they just want to run thier applications …a stable , cheaper ,secure and easy to use managed hosting enviorment would help you see a mass migration… offer this free service to open source projects and free base version will drive up demand
